Album Review for Michael Bublé’s “Crazy Love”
After 2 years from his “Call Me Irresponsible” album, Michael Buble comes back to offer us a much more variant of an album that is “Crazy Love.”
This album, as a whole, is packed and strong, most of which can be attributed to the quite heavy arrangements only done with faith that Michael Buble’s improved vocals can deliver. While different musical genres are involved here, those familiar and have grown fond of Buble will still get the Buble they love. His delivery is pretty much similar: modest but heartfelt. Something that is significantly added though is that it also comes unpretentious but is absolutely fun.
The album starts off with the track “Cry Me A River”. Its pompous opening may be compared to what one takes for a James Bond film score. It has its dramatic and subtle tones that play around comfortably with the arrangement, and Michael Buble envelopes it with tactful but graceful authority. On the other hand, “All of Me” , leans more to the easy-to-listen Jazz sound, but still with the confidence Michael seem to just casually have.
Georgia is more of a driving-down-the-road kind of song. It starts with some seductive melancholic tones but continues with the touch of blues, much like that of Ray Charles’ popular rendition. His signature understated but romantic delivery of lyrics makes more of an appearance here, and this is why the song is as though Buble’s own.
“Crazy Love” is a brighter rendition of Van Morrison’s: not so crazily done, but just right. Nothing to be crazy about it either.
One of my favorites from the tracklist is “Haven’t Met You Yet”. You can blame it on the fact that I am pretty much into contemporary pop, but that’s not only the reason. The likes of this bouncy, sunny track have always been something I’ve been looking forward for Michael Buble to croon. I’ve always wanted to find out if there was one way, or the other, where he could actually fit into the genre. Seemingly, and much comfortably, he did.
“All I Do is Dream of You” is a brassy, nightclub, musical type of track while Hold On is a much more simpler song and has, more or less, similarities with the track “Home” from Buble’s 2005’s “It’s Time.”
“Heartache Tonight” is a curious but an interesting, even entertaining, one. It’s much a mix of rock and jazz with a splash of contemporary. Michael Buble makes this Eagle track his own, and quite enjoyable too.
“Your Nobody Till Somebody Loves You” is a slow, jazzy, blues ballad that comes off as more traditional but still heartfelt while my second favorite from this album, “Baby, You’ve Got What It Takes”, is more upbeat and soulful. If you will, this duet with Sharon Jones has similar strings to “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” but only with much more soul and purr. Both songsters exchange spirited repartee in this track and one could imagine what a great time they were actually having while in the recording session.
“At This Moment” is another tastefully done cover, giving the 80’s song an edgier jazzy sound. However, Stardust was wonderful but came out a little too overpowering when the tune should have been treated a little more delicately.
“Whatever It Takes” is a collaboration with singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith, another fantastic cover of Sexsmith’s tune of the same title. Buble’s and Sexsmith’s voices blend together beautifully in this song.
All in all, “Crazy Love” is still what Michael Buble is all about. But, compared to his other previous albums, this has more punch and definitely demonstrates how Michael should go for more exploring on different, but significant, musical genres.

okay so nauna ka mag-review. i agree on it being fun and diverse. you can easily track similarities with the songs here as with his previous outings. say cry me a river, an opening salvo with much drama and bravado as feeling good. i think the track “hold on” is the resembling more of “lost” taken to the next level. “heartache tonight” is more like crazy little thing and how sweet it is but definitely more fun. i thought i’m hearing sara bareilles’ love song on the opening of haven’t met you yet but definitely the most enjoyable, it leaps on a life of its own. i’m excited sa next one. i hope magco-concert na sya ulit sa pinas. napanood mo na ung MB meets madison square garden? galing nya don.
